Screen Layout

It is the structure of various fields available while creation/change of Asset Master Data. The screen layout becomes important in order to ensure completeness of data while while creation of asset.

Before we move ahead towards understanding the field status in screen layout, we first need to understand about the logical field groups. The logical field groups are division of various fields into logical screens i.e. groups. The groups contain list of relevant fields. The status of fields is maintained per field group.Implementation consideration Before we go ahead on screen layout, we must first understand the same is maintained at following levels:

  1. Asset Master Data

  2. Asset Depreciation Areas

Once we double click on the above, we have to first create screen layout rule, for that select following option

Create Screen Layout Rules for Asset Master Record

Enter the code for screen layout and it’s description

Once we create a screen layout, we should move ahead for maintaining the field status Double click on the option Define Screen Layout for Asset Master Data

After this, the system will present you the list of logical field groups. Select the field status group and double click on Field group rules. This will allow you to maintain status of all the fields available under that logical field group.

This  part controls status of fields involved in the Depreciation Area part of asset master. The screen layout at this level is different from screen layout at master data level. The difference is in level of maintenance. The field status at this level is maintained at Main Asset and Sub Asset level (unlike the previous one which is maintained at logical field groups level).

By dividing both the screen layout at these two levels give you flexibility to have different field status for assets at main and sub asset levels.

The field status at this level contains following fields:

Field Group and name: These are standard groups provided by SAP which contains the list of various fields available for maintenance of status.

Status Required       : Field is mandatory and system does not allow to save master without this Optional        : Field is non-mandatory and system allows to save master without this Suppressed  : Field not visible in the master data Display          : Field not open for entering any data

The status can help in controlling many vital things.

Example: in case an organisation wants to use Sub asset functionality and wants to use depreciation key same as main asset, the status for Depreciation key in sub asset will be display. This will copy the depreciation key from main asset while creating sub asset, but due to the field status as display will not allow the user to change  the same.

Maintenance Level Class                 : Field can be maintained at Asset Class level Main Number : Field can be maintained at Main Asset Number Sub Number   : Field can be maintained at Sub Asset number

Copy The values in the field get copied to the target asset if reference asset is used to copy the data from.

Hope this will be helpful for configuration in Asset Accounting in SAP Financial (FI)
